While most computers come ready to roll with video presentations, some may have to have their settings changed in order to see and hear television quality video and audio.

Here are some suggestions to try.
If you still can't make it work, please email us for tech support and we will be glad to help you!

Q: I hear sound but I don't see any graphics or software demonstration.
A: Review the 3 questions below to help troubleshoot the problem.
1) Are you on a dial-up connection? A minimum requirement for the seminar is a 100Kbps. Slower connections will only receive audio.
2) Do you have the Microsoft Screen Video Decompressor Codec? To find out, right-click on the center of the presentation page, choose Properties, and then click the Advanced tab. For Codecs in Use, check that Windows Media Screen is installed. If not, click Close, then download and install the Codec. To do so, refresh your browser, and when prompted to install the decompressor, click Yes.

If this does not install the Codec, follow these steps:
  1. Go to the Microsoft download page
  2. For Select download, choose "Codecs Installation Package"
  3. Under Windows Media Codecs 8.0 Installation Package, click Download Now
  4. Download and install the Windows Media Player Codecs
3) Do you have several applications or web browsers open? Your network may not have enough bandwidth to support viewing the seminar while running other applications. Close any applications and extra browser windows to minimize the amount of bandwidth you are using.

2.  Q: The presentation is choppy or constantly re-buffers.
A: You can adjust the Windows Media Player (WMP) settings. For WMP 6x, right-click on the center of the presentation page, choose Options, then click the Advanced tab. Select Streaming Media (Windows Media) and click Change. For WMP 9x, right-click on the center of the presentation page and choose Options. Type 30 for the buffer and click OK, then refresh your browser. This will result in a longer initial download, but will help to provide a smoother presentation stream.

If this solution is not successful, see FAQ 8.

3.  Q: The presentation quality is poor.
A: This happens occasionally with some video cards and LCD displays (e.g., laptops and flat screen monitors). Try increasing your screen resolution to 1280 x 1024.

  1. I see the presentation but I don't see hear the audio.
  2. The audio is choppy or constantly re-buffers.
  3. The volume of the software demo is very low or poor quality.
4.  Q: I see the presentation but I don't hear the audio.
A: Try the following solutions in order until the problem is resolved:
  1. Adjust your volume settings. See FAQ 6. for instructions.
  2. Refresh your browser.
  3. Reinstall the codecs package from Microsoft Windows Media website. See FAQ 1. for instructions.
  4. Reinstall Windows Media Player 6 from your Windows operating system CD or contact your systems administrator to do so.

5.  Q: The audio is choppy or constantly re-buffers.
A: You can adjust the Windows Media Player settings. Right-click on the center of the presentation page, choose Options, then click the Advanced tab. Select Streaming Media (Windows Media) and click Change. Note: If you are using Windows Media Player version 9x, simply Right-click and choose Options. Type 30 for the buffer and click OK, then refresh your browser. This will result in a longer initial download, but will help to provide a smoother audio/video stream.
If this solution is not successful, see FAQ 8.

6.  Q: The volume of the software demo is very low or poor quality.
A: The sound can be adjusted in three ways.
  • Windows Media Player has its own volume control. You can right-click on the center of the presentation page, choose Volume, and adjust the sound.
  • Set the volume on your computer by clicking on the speaker icon next to your clock.
  • Set the volume on your external speakers or headphones.

You may also want to use external speakers or try a better sound card.

  • I don't SEE or HEAR anything.
    1. I don't see or hear the presentation.
    2. What can my system administrator do to configure our network for the seminars?
    3. What version of Windows Media Player is required?

      Server errors
    4. I get a "server busy" error.
    5. I get other server errors.
    7.  Q: I don't see or hear the presentation.
A: Try modifying your Proxy Server Settings. In Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, click Internet Options, then click the Connections tab. Click LAN Settings and uncheck Use a Proxy Server. If the problem persists, check with your system administrator to see if your organization's firewall is blocking incoming streams.

    8.  Q: What can my system administrator do to configure our network for the videos?
A: We broadcast the presentation using two streaming media protocols: HTTP and UDP. You should not need to make any modifications to receive the stream using HTTP (port 80).
If you are still having trouble, it will be with the UDP settings. Ask your Network Administrator to Email us for complete technical help on this issue.
    9.  Q: What version of Windows Media Player is required?
A: For the best results use Windows Media Player (WMP) 6x, which is typically installed with Windows operating systems.

To check if you have the WMP 6x on your computer click Start, then Run, and type "mplayer2". If the WMP application opens, then you have WMP 6x on your computer. If it does not open, you can install it from your Windows operating system CD for Windows 98, NT, 2000, and XP.

WMP 7x - 9x will work, but you may experience some audio problems due to audio codec conflicts. If you experience audio problems you can either reinstall the codecs package from the Microsoft Windows Media website or uninstall your newer version of WMP and reinstall WMP 6x from your Windows operating system CD.

    10.  Q: I get a "server busy" error.
A: Try refreshing the page. If the problem persists, try modifying your Proxy Server Settings. In Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, click Internet Options, then click the Connections tab. Click LAN Settings and uncheck Use a Proxy Server.

    11.  Q: I get other server errors.
A: Your configuration for Windows Media Player may be incorrect. Refer to the Windows Media Player Help file for "Configuring Network Options."
